This IDC study provides a worldwide forecast and vendor share analysis of the requirements definition and management (SCM) market from 2008 to 2013.

"2008 continued to exhibit some requirements definition and management growth, though lower than previously expected, marked by market consolidation of the largest vendors on the one hand as we moved into 2009, and continued innovation and user uptake of the products from dynamic smaller players on the other," said Melinda Ballou, IDC program director, Application Life–Cycle Management. "While we predict significantly lower growth rates initially in the forecast period, even in a difficult economic climate, we expect and have seen growth — though slower — moving into 2009 €"2010. We predict uptake and strong additional growth recovery later in the forecast period as the need for requirements definition and management and improved software development team productivity with complex sourcing push user demand for focused requirements development tools. Coordination across life–cycle phases to target testing, change management, and initial IT project portfolio coordination is already emerging."
